Are you sick of buying protein bars that are:  A).expensive B).full of crap you can’t pronounce or C). Both? I don’t even want to know how much we spend on bars every month because we try to buy the “natural” and “organic” ones. Chad came up with a great idea to make our own.  If you don’t care have time to make your own try Picky Bars.

Sedona Singletrack Festival

Yesterday I went downhilling with my brother on South Mountain.  It was scary as shit but I did buy all the pads and that really helped with the fear.  We only got one run in but I think that this is going to really help my technical skills.

Today my brother and I went to Sedona for the Singletrack Festival.  It was a blast.  We went on a group ride with Over the Edge Sports.  We went on a trail called Special Ed.  This is the descrpition on the website “A new trail on the southwest end of town, for advanced riders. Steep chunky downhills and singletrack traversing exposed bands of red rock. Loop back through Turkey Creek, Baldwin Trails, and and climb up Carroll Canyon and drop Ridge Trail back to our shop”.  It was defiantly exposed and definitely singletrack.  After feeling so good about my riding in Phoenix I felt like a beginner.  I had two awesome crashes.  One sent me directly into a Prickly Pear cactus.  I managed to save it enough where just my knee went in.  That being said I am still picking the prickles out.  The second was more serious I went over about a 4 foot ledge and the bike ended up on top of me.  No big injuries just scrapes, bruises, and thats about it.

After calming down my riding improved.  I rode behind my brother and who pretty much killed it and I did most of what he did.  The problem is that the little that he did and I did not is what really separates me.  I did walk some of the exposure sections as the penalty for falling is severe.  I need to work on my balance to get to the next level.  Great day with my bro!

Electric Motorcycles

I recently needed to sell my pride and joy, a Ducati 848 motorcycle.

That bike was absolutely amazing.  When I saw it at the dealership I was instantly sold.  It was 1.5 years old in mint conditions with carbon pipes.  It’s a Ducati do I even need to tell you how it sounded when I started it up?  There is no better sound!  It was loud but not obnoxious, well maybe a little LOL.  No matter what motorcycle you have the sound of starting it up and the smell of the toxic fumes are part of the experience.  Riding in the mountains and coming out of a corner with a 1000 foot cliff on one side and opening the throttle is the ultimate feeling.  It’s the combination of the low growl, vibration, and acceleration.  Can you imagine turning that corner twisting the throttle and hearing silence?  I realize that gas is expensive and we need to be green but I can not imagine riding an electric motorcycle.  No fumes and no noise just complete silence.  What are your thoughts?  Has anyone tried one?  I know my next bike is still going to run on high-octane CO2 producing gas!

HSN

I woke up this morning and for some reason I was watching HSN (Home Shopping Network).  These sales people were trying to sell a rechargeable fluorescent light for 15 minutes.  They had to just keep repeating what they said over and over.  Then a woman was selling rejuvenating cream and they had before and after pictures.  The before picture looked better than the after.  In the after picture the woman looked jaundice.  Lastly, they are selling an electric snowblower.  Its such a piece of crap.  It doesn’t go continuously threw the snow.  If you get a big snow you better get the shovel because this thing probably could not move more than 2 inches. My advice never watch this channel for anything other than amusement.

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah

Have a wonderful holiday.

Awesome Day for a Mountain Bike Ride

Great ride today in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve.  I started at a different trailhead (Shea and 40th St.) and got on a bunch of trails I have not been on.  Well I don’t think I have been on.  I can never remember.  If I saw a trail I knew I turned the other way, sometimes that meant turning back. I did have a great ride although climbing a lot more than planed.
