Ride and Step Brother Interview
Great Ride in the heat yesterday followed by and encore ride this morning before work which was filled with monster hills up and down. This is my favorite time of year in phoenix where it is nice and cool in the am and hot in the afternoon. I had the pleasure of seeing a tortoise.
I am finally down below 170lbs. It has been a little challenge eating healthy and being on the road 4 days a week but I bring 4-5 meals with me as well as healthy snacks. I am defiantly going to be cruise ready. My goal is 165 or less before the cruise which is at the end of may. Time to enjoy a cup of Japanese green tea and get ready for work.
Gnar and Sun
This morning started with some nerve-racking but fun mountain biking. All was well until I got 2 flats in the first run. Then I was nervous that I was going to make the group wait. Everything in my body was shaking. Not from fear I have done Geronimo a few time and I am getting better and better. It was holding the group up that was screwing with my mind. Lucky for me I had 2 tubes. When I got to the bottom they had not even been waiting long because they were waiting for someone else. The next ride was national to 32nd street. I guess it’s not an official trail but it was great. Steep as shit but not very technical. I decides to call it because my front side wall was in bad shape and I didn’t want to pinch the tube.
After deciding I needed more of a workout I bought a speed stack and went to 24 hour Fitness.
Now I am dead and at the pool working on my tan and practicing relaxing. Erin says I can not relax it be quiet. I’ll have you know I have not opened my mouth for an hour!
Oh and I have to leave you with this, WTF

She will never get laid!
SBP Cruising
I was up bright and early to get a workout in before a day of fun, I mean work, umm, well what ever you want to call it. I am overnighting in San Luis Obispo, CA. After and awesome breakfast that consisted of an omelet, red skin potatoes, a grapefruit, and strawberries and cream my Captain and I took the cruisers out for a spin.
5K and Food
On Sunday I agreed to participate in the Optimism Run for Parkinson’s Disease 5K that my wife helped create. I was joined by my friend Natalie who really ought to have a running blog because she is obsessed.
I placed 1st in my age group and 24th overall with a time of 20:48! NICE! This was 2:30 faster than my goal.
Later I had to make dinner for myself because Erin was working. I made the best fish sandwich I have ever had. I grilled Snapper and some onions and pablano chilies, and put fresh tomatoes on top. I also grilled up some asparagus to go with it. It was amazing.
I think that a big part of eating healthy is learning to cook. Erin has turned into a great chef and it has defiantly changed how much we go out and helped me getting into better shape.
Life or Death Get in Shape
I have found that most people have no idea how to eat healthy. The first problem is that most people don’t cook. It is extremely hard for you to eat healthy and eat out for almost all meals. The second problem is that people eat so much candy and artificial food that they do not enjoy the flavors of real food.
It does not take long for your taste to change after you stop eating artificial foods. Real food can be full of flavor. Healthy food can be filling and delicious but you have to take time to plan out and cook meals.
Your health effects yourself, your marriage, your family, and you country. If you think it’s ok to put on weight when you get married look at the divorce rate. You have an obligation to your spouse to stay in shape and attractive and this goes for the men too!
The picture above says it all. Make time now or suffer the consequences later. Take the time to educate yourself on healthy eating and fitness. Find a hobby that is active such as biking, tennis, hiking, etc. Get magazines such as Natural Health, Men’s Health, or Fitness RX. Go to a Naturopathic Doctor who will be able to help you get started. Lastly, get a personal trainer. Be careful here. Look for someone that is certified through: ACSM, NASM, or has a degree in exercise physiology. You have to work hard and in the beginning it is going to hurt. Man up and suck it up. After about 3-4 weeks you are going to be feeling better and enjoying the burn. I want to you to send me some before pics now and let me know your goals. You can do it! If you have questions comment or email me.
First Day Back
Well it’s my first day back to work in a week and my first 4 day trip in like 2 and a half months. I have to show at 8:10 am but I wanted to get a workout in before work. I set my alarm for 4am and only pressed snooze 1 time. Since I got my new mountain bike I have been neglecting to gym and boy did I feel that.
I did a full body workout which kills me. I like split routines but generally don’t lift enough to do them. I got a long day ahead of me but feeling good now that I started my day off right.
Meeting with Louis Garneau
I have been working on a new concept for cycling shorts that will drastically improve comfort for men. Today I have a meeting with Louis Garneau. I am hoping that even know there is a lot of engineering to still be done they will like my concept. I with I could share the videos and pics with you guys but I Gotto keep it on the DL.
San Louis Obispo
What an amazing day. First it started with breakfast overlooking the beach.
Then I was off to the beach and I got to see plenty of marine life without even getting wet.
There were surfers too
Then I went on a nice 5 mile run
Now I have to take a show and go to work.
Signed Off for Another Year
I just got home from recurrent training in Salt Lake City. This is a 3 day event once a year that is nerve-racking because your job depends on it. It went very smoothly due to a great Captain Simulator partner. It’s basically 1 day of ground training and 2 days on Simulator training and evaluation. After we passed we went to the locale bar to have a celebration drink. Unfortunately the kitchen was closed but they offered chips and salsa. They were really good chips and salsa. I was so tiered that I went straight to sleep and didn’t even remember to brush my teeth. This morning after brushing I spit into the sink and it was red. I was like WTF. It was the red food coloring the chips. That is discussing. We don’t need food coloring in anything especially tortilla chips.
I got home early and although I was exhausted I managed to go to the gym and then go out and read by the pool for a bit. Here is a review of the NEW Muscle Milk Cake Batter ready to drink recovery drink.
I am now relaxing on the couch watching the Travel channel and looking forward to some beverages and hanging out with friends tonight.
Treat Williams
Started out having a martini last night and after several assorted adult beverages I woke up this morning feeling like crap. It funny how that happens. I did however manage to get a Mountain Bike ride in before work with my man Dan. Boy was it worth it. I mean I felt like crap and my legs were screaming from my leg workout yesterday but there was some Jesus (hot woman) on the trail. I think we saw the worlds perfect ass today. I wish that I had a nice picture for you but my phone was in my Camelback.
Since I didn’t get a photo here is another wonderful booty.
Tonight on a flight to Salt Lake City I sat in the same row with Treat Williams. Unfortunately I did not know who he was although he looked familiar. What a down to earth nice guy. He is a pilot as well so you know how that goes, had to talk about flying.

I am so tiered so I am going to bed good night.
Running Gear
So I went for a run yesterday and my bluetooth headphones were in the car so I just grabbed the good old stock iPhone headphones. BOO! Here is some of my favorite workout gear. I had to keep adjusting them. So annoying.
Under Armour- I like the tight compression shirts. First of all they are so comfortable but second on long runs the tight shirts assure no chaffing or rubbing. I also really like the compression shorts and running shorts. That being said the compression shorts have a tag that will rub your back raw. GRRRRR
Mizuno Shoes- I have tried many different shoes but when I went to Mizuno my injuries went away. I have tried others but always went back.
Icebreaker Clothing- I love this company. They make all of their clothes out of Merino Wool. There socks are awesome as well as their shirts. I wish I could say that I tried more of their stuff but it is very $$$$$$.

Bodyglide- AHHHHHH! It prevents all chaffing. If you are doing any long training this is a must!!!
Jaybird Bluetooth Headphones- These are great. There are no wires to connect to your phone. The wire that goes from the left to right occasionally is annoying if you turn your head a lot but nothing compared to the normal long wire headphones. Also you need to were your bluetooth device on you right side because you body easily blocks the signal.

Nathan Hydration Belts- These belts do not slush like the ones that hold big water bottles. The small bottles allow you to take one for a 4-5 mile run and 2-3-4 for a longer run. The other upside is that you can put water in some and a sports drink in the others. There is also a pocket for gu or stinger waffles!

Road ID- Be safe and wear a Road ID. I know too many people who have been hit by cars running and biking.

Sole Sports Running Store- This is a great store with an awesome owner. I just love this place. The sell you what you need not the most expensive items. Lance the owner is a great guy. During group runs he is not to good to run and have conversations with the people in the back.
These are the things I like. I have tried so many different products and I feel that these are the best.
On Track
I have now been on a strict workout regiment for the last 2 weeks. I have been very consistent. I have been lifting 3-4 times a week and doing cardio on most of the other days. When I am at home in Phoenix I generally either run or go mountain biking with the occasional road bike ride. I find doing cardio at the gym extremely boring and only do it as a last resort. My wife OperationMeltdown has been finding a lot of new healthy meal ideas on the internet that actually taste very good. You can find some of those recipes on her website. The biggest problem for me is that I eat a lot. Training for Ironman only made it even worse because I could eat any thing I wanted and not gain a pound. After about a week and a half my appetite has come down a bit so it has been better. So far I have lost about 4lbs in 2.5 weeks.
I found out today that I won a free coconut water contest from RunEatRepeat. I love coconut water. It is the perfect electrolyte drink. It is low in calories and all natural. One thing I hate about so many sports drinks is all the artificial ingredients. Some other great brands without artificial ingredients are Hammer Nutrition and Honey Stinger. You must try the Stinger Waffles!
I also tried wasabi seaweed from Trader Joe’s today.
This was actually pretty good. It is not going to fill you up but not bad. You think my fish would like this? LOL Time to relax goodnight.
New Year Resolutions and Video of an Awesome Dog
Well tomorrow is New Years Eve. Next year the world is coming to an end (LOL) so this year your resolutions have to be amazing. So the normal resolution is to get in shape and most people work really hard at this for about a week and the dedicated people last 2 weeks.
So how is this year going to be different. I used to be a Personal Trainer and I am still very much into fitness. The key is to have fun. Going to the gym will not alone get you fit. You have to know what you are doing and you have to enjoy it. This may take time because in the beginning it will hurt and you will suffer a bit. If you do not like the gym then don’t go! There are plenty other things you can do: biking, running, swimming, soccer, tennis, cross-country skiing, etc. The best thing you can do is sign up for a race or tournament that way you will hold yourself accountable. Also if possible get a coach or personal trainer. Also there are great apps that can help you such as all sport GPS, FitDeck, and Livestrong MyPlate.
So what else are you going to do. I mean now you are going to look good and feel good so what are you going to do! For some of you, you need to stop being scared of life and get out the and enjoy it. ”If you risk nothing, you risk everything.” (Geena Davis) Some people won’t go biking because they might get hurt, some will not go sky diving or scuba diving for the same reason. Yea I know you have a family that depends on you but that’s what insurance is for, use it. Watching your life pass you by will kill you faster than any activity, well base jumping might kill you faster so if you have a family you probably shouldn’t do it but you get my point have fun and take risks.
Next year is new opportunity. Have fun!

Lastly, I will leave you with a quote.
“I speak to everyone in the same way, whether he is the garbage man or the president of the university.”
― Albert Einstein
We all forget this sometimes but one day that garbage man might be your boss. We all have to start somewhere and we all have set backs and that garbage man has great potential. We are all equal and sometimes it is a very small gesture that makes your life turn from ordinary to extraordinary.
LAX Run to the Beach and Back
Great run this morning to the beach in L.A. I have been slacking on my workout routines and finally checked the mirror and was not happy. After running 4 miles last night I decided I was going to run to the beach this morning which was a 7.5 mile round trip. 11.5 miles in the last 18 hours. Although it was a 3.5 mile jump with no rest I felt great. For some reason people were staring at me in their cars. I think it was because I was running on a road with no shoulder part of the time but thats the way to the beach so what am I supposed to do. I have to say I used to hate running and although I think it takes awhile before you start to like it, it can really be amazing. Running almost always puts me in a good mood. Sometimes I am in a bad mood because I have to run but when I am finished I am always happy.
